The Mediastinum is the region located between the two lungs. It is bounded by the sternum anteriorly and by the thoracic vertebral column posteriorly. It communicates with the neck via the superior thoracic aperture and with the extraperitoneal, extrapleural and epidural spaces. The mediastinum is divided into a superior and an inferior part by a plane that crosses the manubriosternal joint and the intervetebral disk of the fourth and fifth thoracic vertebra. The inferior mediastinum is subdivided into anterior, middle and posterior parts.
The 3D Slicer Mediastinum Anatomy module contains 3D models of the mediastinum reconstructed from anonymized CT data. The module include 3D models of the heart, aorta, inferior vena cava, superior vena cava, esophagus, sternum, ribs and thoracic vertebrae. To access the atlas, please fill in the contact form.
